Educational Field Trips

Fifth graders go on one of two major field trips every year. In May, they go to Greenfield Village or the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Greenfield Village is an 18th century living museum. The students look at arts from Colonial times and they learn about and meet historical figures. At the Museum of Science and Industry students learn about aviation, technology, environmental advancement, hands-on physics, and scientific wonders of the world.

Students go on local field trips that include Sarett Nature Center and the Krasl Art Center. At Sarett, the kids study rocks, natural processes, and sometimes they go hiking. At the Krasl Art Center students visit exhibits showcasing various forms of art and slide show instruction. During their visit students get to create their own art pieces.

Parents are welcome to come on any of these educational field trips!

Sixth graders have the opportunity to experience a great adventure with a field trip to Five Pines in Eau Claire. The students and teachers spend 36 hours participating in the MAX program presented by the Five Pines staff.  Three main objectives stressed in the MAX program are teamwork, problem solving, and goal setting.  These objectives are woven into all the activities that the students participate in during this outdoor educational experience.  Many of these activities are individual such as archery, rock-wall climbing, and a high-ropes course.  Other activities require a partner such as canoeing.  Orienteering and team-building exercises require the students to work cooperatively in small groups.  Upon returning to school, students are encouraged to continue using the objectives of the MAX program- problem solving, teamwork, and goal setting.  In doing so, school staff hopes that each student will have a more successful and productive school year.
