Maverick the Dog

Maverick is a trained and certified therapy dog. He has extensive training to help children. He is trained to sit and pay attention when children read aloud to him. Additionally, he can help students with emotional difficulties, reduce stress, and provide social support and enhance self-esteem. He has a job here at Washington Elementary and will be working everyday when he is here. Maverick is a gentle and loving dog. He is a full-fledged part of our staff. Having Maverick at our school just reinforces our attitudes of kindness, compassion, and bucket filling.

Maverick is a black Labrador retriever. He loves the water and has webbed feet for swimming. Maverick’s fur coat is also water resistant. Labs are the most popular dog breed in the world.

Maverick loves to listen to stories, swim, go for walks, and hang out with his Labrador buddies Minnkota and Maggie. He also loves to go for rides in the car.

After the buses and cars are loaded at the end of the day and Maverick has said good-bye to all his friends, he heads home with Ms. Murray. Ms. Murray is a kindergarten teacher at Washington Elementary and is also “mom” to our beloved Maverick. Maverick lives with her and his 3 year old brother MinnKota who is also a black lab.
