Schools of Choice Information

    April 25, 2011

     Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in Coloma Schools.  The application(s) you requested are enclosed.  The Coloma Community School District is a "Schools of Choice" school district. This means that students who live in the Berrien County ISD, Van Buren County ISD or Lewis-Cass ISD may apply for admission to Coloma Schools without having to receive permission from their home school district.  Students who are accepted under the "Schools of Choice" program may attend Coloma Schools without any tuition charge. Students admitted under the “Schools of Choice” program for 2011-2012 may re-enroll each year thereafter, and will be given a preference for any openings over other non-residents applying for the first time.  In addition, the district will give a preference for enrollment to other school age children residing in the same household with any “Schools of Choice” student who attended a district school during the preceding year.

There are unlimited non-resident openings available in grades K – 12.

Applications for admission will be accepted April 25 – September 9, 2011.

Parents who have applied on or before September 9, 2011 will be notified of the district’s decision no later than September 9, 2011 and will receive information regarding the date that they are to appear for enrollment, class registration and orientation.

Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Student athletes in grades 9 through 12 should be aware of Michigan High School Athletic Association (M.H.S.A.A.) regulations involving “Schools of Choice” transfers.  All “Schools of Choice” student athletes should contact the Athletic Director, at 269-468-2409 for a more detailed explanation on their status concerning eligibility under the M.H.S.A.A.

If you have further questions regarding the "Schools of Choice" program, please feel free to contact my office at 269-468-2424.

            Sincerely,

            Terry A. Boguth
